Lots of good stuff discussed at the last meeting including :-

Support to the Wainwrights award programme,

Trip to Blackpool rally (11 April), may even have our own table,

Improvements and availability of Keith’s (G0EMM) internet link,

Norman G7MRL+ others are off to Islay again in June with a much better location and high hopes of some good 2M conditions.

Request to support the 3 Peaks yacht race in June, Paul (M1PAF) is getting a few more details,

Licence courses, see previous post

Future stuff, Colin M6XSD is going to give us a talk on APRS + a few other bits at some point when he’s sussed it out fully. Next meeting I’m going to do a bit on using BV7 print to help with the process of QSLing.

All for now, Steve (G0MTD)

Norman G7MRL and friends to vist Islay

Posted in Club News on September 5th, 2009 by paul_m1paf – Be the first to comment

Norman G7MRL, Nick G0HIK and Ivan G3IZD will be visiting the Scottish island of Islay shortly for some radio fun. They will arrive in the morning of the 12th September and hope to be on the air later that day.

Ivan is a member of FOC and intends to work mainly CW probably much on 30m. Nick and Norman are hoping that our current weather gives it a rest as they hope to work as much VHF and UHF as the wind allows. This is one reason they picked the south of Islay.

All operators will be using their own call signs with the ‘M’ Scottish prefix modifier i.e. GM7MRL, GM0HIK and GM3IZD. Norman reports that some of the events planned have had to be scrapped as poor weather has resulted in the team falling behind with preparations.

Operations are planned on 6m, 4m, 2m, 70cm and 23cm (God loves an optimist) using a mixture of FM and SSB horizontally and vertically polarised e.g. 2m SSB-vertical to give stations using collinear antennas a chance to make SSB contacts.

The team will try to fit in some SOTA,WAB,Lighthouses etc but a lot depends on Nick as in Norman’s words “I am a limited 64 year old and Ivan is a fit 76 year old. We should have used our bus passes.”

Preferred frequencies will be posted later.

Meeting 31st August

Don’t forget the Monday meeting is at the Briery as it’s a Bank Holiday. Unfortunately I won’t be there as I’m pulling the car apart to finish installing the radio prior to the Barra trip.

Welcome club members

Huge apologies for the time it’s taken to send out your user accounts but this weekend is the first time I’ve managed to set aside some time to set them all up.

I’ve taken the decision to limit accounts to an “invite only” basis to limit the potential for spam attacks on the blog. This is a bit more work for me but I think it’s worth it. If any club members haven’t received an email with user id and password let me know and I’ll sort it out.

Pete Webster M0IFF hasn’t been added because I need an email address for him (I can’t create an account without it) – Pete do you have an email address?

Cheers,

Paul M1PAF
