Barra 2007 – Getting there
Tea break on route to Oban, Mark is on the camera so this shows Paul (M1PAF) on the left, Jim (G7GAG) on the right and myself (G0MTD) in the middle

Ferry Crossing
Time to relax on the 5 hour crossing to Barra. Paul listens as Mark plays the Magners trumpet

Looking Back
Leaving the main-land behind (left and the Isle of Mull to the right in this picture.

Sunset Day One
First evening on Barra and we are welcomed with this beautiful sunset.

The Cottage
Our main location / base station for the week this very comfortable cottage. It’s located on the very edge of the water on a cockle strand.

Moxon
Paul erecting the 20M moxon at the rear of the cottage close to the waters edge. A development of the Moxon used on Skye last year utilising a single mast.

Ready To Rumble
The moxons ready to rumble on 20M. Again fantastic results with just 100w. 5/9 signal on both RX/TX across the world. Here the Moxon is beaming to the East.

17M Delta Quad
Another homebrew antenna – a simple 2 ele quad. Used a shorting bar on the reflector to shorten it to a director and thus able to reverse the beam 180 deg without rotating it. This is mounted on a Clarke pump-up mast that was overkill on reflection (and very heavy / bulky)

On The Beach
In the foreground is the vertical for 40M although this used a smart tuner so we were able to utilise this antenna on a number of bands. Worked wonders on 40M in the evening

How Close Is That
With the tide in you can see here just how close to the waters edge we were able to locate the vertical.

Antenna Farm
Looking beyond the cottage you can just about make out the various antennas, 20M moxon, 17M delta, Invertered Vee’s 40 / 80.

40/80M Station
The Yaesu FT920 set up in Marks room was used mainly during the day on 40/80M

20M Station
Here Paul is using the Kenwood TS570 on 20M barefoot with the Moxon

17M Station
The back of Jim’s head and Paul operating on 17M. Again barefoot into the 2 ele quad.

Pile Up
Mark has a dabble on the BIG Band

Crannag
The Cottage in all it’s glory, very similar to the QSL card we produced this shows why the location was excellent for radio.

View To The East
What can I say, just stunning

View To the North
The tide is in so no runway to be seen

View South East

Another View East
Fantastic !!!

Crannag
One last image, we’ll be back I’m sure.
